The Maui County Council congratulated Seabury High School student Reese Guzman for placing third in the Girls 10-12 division of the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships held in Florida this summer. Reese was the top American finisher in her age division and competed against representatives from other countries.
She finished third place in this international competition, said Councilmember Don Couch, who introduced the congratulatory resolution for Reese. She competed against government-sponsored athletes from Argentina and Thailand.”
Reese is Guzman-family sponsored, Councilmember Don Guzman commented, as the supportive dad of the Maui girl. She continues to make us proud, and I really would like to give credit and thank her coaches Renee Li and Brenda Rego
Councilmember Mike White took note that Reese’s resolution states that her formative years were spent at a Maui County asset – Waiehu Golf Course.
Reese advanced to the Optimist International event after her exceptional performance at qualifying events, including the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association Optimist Qualifier, the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships Qualifier and the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships.
