On Tuesday, March 25, 2014, the County Council received the Fiscal Year 2015 Budget from Mayor Alan Arakawa.
Councilmember White stated, “I look forward to discussing the needs of the County in detail over the next month with each department.”
White serves as the Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee.
Our economy has not yet fully recovered and I believe we must remain fiscally prudent in spending taxpayer dollars, said White.
“Fulfilling obligations to current and past County employees, while maintaining core services to the community must be a priority. We cannot over burden Maui County residents and businesses with additional taxes and fees,” White said.
If Council fails to pass a balanced budget by June 10, 2014, the proposed budget from the Mayor will take effect on July 1, 2014.
White asked the public, “while the Budget and Finance Committee normally hears from non-profits and County departments, I strongly encourage the general public and businesses to provide input as the Committee deliberates on the budget”.
