Councilmember Don Couch’s bill to prohibit alcohol consumption at Kamaole II Beach Park was referred to the Economic Development, Energy and Agriculture (EAR) Committee.
Also referred to the EAR Committee is Councilmember Don Guzman’s resolution urging the administration to adopt a unified definition of “agriculture.” Seven testifiers in the Council Chamber supported the resolution. Farmers shared personal stories about inconsistent and cumbersome regulations.
Resolution 14-34, introduced by Councilman Mike White, calls on the County Clerk to increase the number of early walk-in voting locations.
Bills from the Department of Public Works to codify the use of new traffic control devices and acquisition of Wailuku property for the municipal parking lot were referred to Councilmember Elle Cochran’s Infrastructure and Environmental Management Committee.
Bills 12 through 19, all relating to Fiscal Year 2014 budget amendments requested by Mayor Arakawa, were sent to him for his signature.
Mayor Alan Arakawa is scheduled to present his proposed Fiscal Year 2015 Budget at the March 25 Council meeting. Resolution 14-32 would reschedule the May 2014 Council meetings to May 6 and May 20. This will facilitate Fiscal Year 2015 Budget deliberations.
Councilmember Michael Victorino chaired yesterday’s meeting as Presiding Officer Pro Tempore, then spent the afternoon at the State Capitol in Honolulu testifying in support of HB1024, which will extend the liability protections for the county lifeguards, and HB2139 relating to public agency meetings.
