Nominee for prosecuting attorney to be vetted Tuesday
WAILUKU, Hawaii—The Government Relations, Ethics and Transparency Committee will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. to vet the nomination of Andrew H. Martin for prosecuting attorney, Chair Mike Molina announced today.
Molina said Martin’s nomination comes with almost 10 years of experience with the county. Nominated by Mayor Michael P. Victorino on Jan. 20 to lead the Maui County Department of the Prosecuting Attorney, Martin has been practicing law for almost 20 years.
“We’re looking forward to moving in a positive direction with a new prosecuting attorney,” Molina said. “The department needs steady leadership, and the committee looks forward to meeting with Mr. Martin and seeing if he’s a good fit to serve our community in this vital role.”
Martin is a deputy prosecuting attorney. His resume—available in the committee’s public files—shows other government experience, including service as deputy city prosecutor in Long Beach, Calif., law clerk for the Los Angeles County District Attorney and legal extern for U.S. Sen. John McCain.
Molina said the meeting agenda also includes possible legal settlements with Maui Electric Company for the replacement of a utility pole and with Maluhia Maui Scott, who alleges excessive use of force, police misconduct and civil rights violations.
The committee will also discuss two newly created advisory bodies, the Commission on Healing Solutions for Homelessness and the Conservation Planning Committee.
