Community invited to virtual town hall on proposed emergency runway lights at Kapalua Airport
LAHAINA, Hawaiʻi—Councilmember Tamara Paltin announced today she will host a virtual town hall on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the proposed addition of runway lights for emergency use at Kapalua Airport.
Operations at the Kapalua Airport are limited to daytime hours. Residents may have concerns about a State of Hawaiʻi proposal to add lights, said Paltin, in her second term holding the council seat for the West Maui residency area.
“We look forward to sharing more information about this project and discussing what concerns the community may have regarding runway lights in Kapalua,” Paltin said. “It’s important for us to understand different perspectives regarding how this project could impact the community and environment in that area.”
Joe Pluta, president of the West Maui Taxpayers Association, will provide comments at the town hall, Paltin said. Marvin Moniz, the state Department of Transportation’s airports manager for Maui County, will also participate, she said.
Members of the public may participate in the virtual town hall at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81119482159 or visit the Maui County Council Facebook page for the link.
