Council committee meetings suspended during budget session
WAILUKU, Hawaii—The council’s committee meetings will be suspended during the annual budget session starting on March 29, Council Chair Alice L. Lee announced today.
According to the Maui County Charter, the mayor must submit to the council an operating budget and a capital program by March 25. Fiscal year 2022 begins July 1, 2021, and the council must pass the budget by June 10.
“The Budget, Finance and Economic Development Committee will conduct the budget session, and all other committees will be asked to refrain from meeting from the end of March through May 15,” Lee said. “The suspension of committee meetings will enable councilmembers to focus on the critical review of the proposed fiscal year 2022 budget.”
Lee said exceptions may be granted for time-sensitive matters, including court-imposed deadlines for litigation matters and deadlines for appointments to boards and commissions.
