Hana residents urged to submit written testimony; district office temporarily closed
WAILUKU, Hawaii – Remote oral testimony via phone from the Maui County Council’s Hana district office will be temporarily unavailable for committee meetings today and tomorrow and for the council meeting on Friday, Council Chair Mike White announced today.
Meeting agendas for this afternoon’s Land Use Committee meeting, tomorrow morning’s Planning Committee and Friday afternoon’s council meeting are posted at MauiCounty.us. The Hana office is temporarily closed, White said.
For most council and committee meetings conducted in the Council Chamber, remote testimony may be given at the council’s offices in Hana, Maui; Lanai City, Lanai; and Kaunakakai, Molokai.
White said any East Maui residents wishing to testify on agenda items for this week’s remaining meetings should consider emailing their written testimony to the appropriate committee email address:
- Land Use Committee – lu.committee@mauicounty.us
- Planning Committee – pc.committee@mauicounty.us
- County Council – county.clerk@mauicounty.us
“We take testimony from the community very seriously, so we want to remind the residents they have many methods of submitting testimony to the council,” White said. “Our district offices in Hana, Lanai and Molokai are instrumental to performing the duties of the council.”
Written testimony may also be hand delivered, mailed or faxed to the council office, White said.
Agenda items concerning the Hana district on Friday’s agenda include safety issues for the Lower Nahiku Bridge, status of the new community center in Nahiku and a proposed leach field at Kapueokahi Bay.
White said since these items will be referred to committee for further review, there is no anticipated action. Future meetings will provide residents more opportunity to submit testimony.
Councilmember Robert Carroll, who holds the council’s East Maui residency seat, said his office is always available to provide assistance and may be contacted at 270-7245.
