Rawlins-Fernandez, chair of the Economic Development and Budget Committee, intends to discuss the details of the council’s budget proposal for the 2021 fiscal year beginning July 1, 2020. The budget bills were sent to Mayor Victorino on June 9 and he has until June 19 to veto or approve.
As stated in the Committee’s report, the 2021 budget focuses on addressing “pressing community needs by prioritizing appropriations in social services, environmental protection, housing, and economic diversification and self sufficiency, including agriculture, food security, and food sustainability.”
“Given the COVID-19 pandemic and its social and economic impact on residents, we approached this year’s budget session with a spirit of innovation, collaboration and realism,” said Rawlins-Fernandez.
Rawlins-Fernandez expects to be joined by Committee Vice-Chair Kelly Takaya King and Council Chair Alice Lee, along with representatives of community groups receiving funding for programs and services in fiscal year 2021.
