The Water Resources Committee yesterday received an update from the water director on the status of the Waikamoi flume renovation project.
Director of Water Supply Dave Taylor said the $11.2 million, all-aluminum flume, is 90 percent complete.
“The flume should last for many decades,” Taylor said.
The renovated flume is located within Waikamoi Forest Reserve at an elevation of 4,000 feet. The public is prohibited from entering the site.
The original flume was constructed in the 1930’s and delivers water to the Olinda Water Treatment Facility. The flume serves more than 10,000 Upcountry residents. The renovations will prevent water loss from leaks.
Committee Chair Michael Victorino congratulated the department on a “job well done.”
