Kula community meeting tomorrow night on water safety
KULA, Hawaiʻi (August 23, 2023)—Council Vice-Chair Yuki Lei K. Sugimura announced that she is hosting a community meeting at Von Tempsky Community Center at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow to discuss impacts to water safety and community resources for those impacted by the fires.
Sugimura said the meeting was organized in collaboration with community partners to provide more health and safety information to the public. She said the meeting will include officials from EPA, the Department of Water Supply, the state Department of Health’s Safe Drinking Water Branch and the American Red Cross.
“There are many families who have been affected by the fires and do not have access to safe and drinkable water,” said Sugimura, who holds the council seat for the Upcountry Maui residency area. “The goal of this meeting is to bring our community together and learn more about how we can remain proactive in maintaining the health and safety of our residents.”
State Sen. Lynn DeCoite, state Rep. Kyle Yamashita and Councilmember Nohelani Uʻu-Hodgins will also participate in the meeting, Sugimura said.
The Von Tempsky Community Center is located at 4355 Lower Kula Rd.
